MNLTH
by RTFKT x Nike
Behold a mysterious Monolith NFT!
At the end of 2021 Nike acquired RTFKT (artifact) studios, a digital design studio producing virtual wearables and other collectables. The collaboration has now airdropped the first Nike NFT, MNLTH (monolith) to all holders of it’s Clone X collection.
This NFT appears as a mysterious rotating metallic cube, etched with geometric patterns encompassing the logos for both Nike and RTFKT (a swoosh and a lightning bolt respectively).
Since the MNLTH first appeared at the beginning of February, it has evolved from a solid sealed ‘box’ into one which shows cracks appearing, eminiating bright blue light – possibly from inside (see second image).
This is accompanied by futuristic cyber-style sound effects, adding further to the intrigue around what will happen next!
This NFT introduces a new dynamic within the concept of NFT reveals, as the community triggers the reveal in stages, by collectively completing a series of quests.
There is a huge amount of speculation regarding the contents of the box, these include
- Digital wearables such as trainers
- An avatar for a NIKE P2E (play to earn) sports league
- A baby clone of the original clone that was airdropped the box
The description of the NFT on OpenSea hints that ‘It seems to be sentient’ and asks ‘What does it do?’, leading some to hypothesise that the box could contain some sort of robot companion for Clone X NFTs (a series of rare avatars that can be used within various environments in the metaverse) or even some type of AI athlete!
Regardless of the exact nature of MNLTH, the buzz around this NFT seems sure to indicate that this is the first step in a hugely successful partnership within the NFT landscape.
There is a whopping 20,000 MNLTH NFTs minted but that has not prevented it catapulting to an eye-watering 5.4 eth floor, with many betting on Nike to deliver something spectacular. More on this soon.
