CROSSROADS by Beeple has sold for $6.6 million at Nifty Gateway. At the time of writing that makes this Beeple piece the most expensive digital work ever auctioned.
This piece was a first for Nifty, a token that would change based on the outcome of an event. Depending on the USA election’s outcome, one of two videos—one featuring a victorious Trump, the other featuring a despondent one—would play.
With Biden winning, we end up with this NFT of Trump graffitied, mocked and possibly deceased.
Beeple’s visionary and digital pictures have propelled him to the top of the digital art world, winning him 1.8 million followers on Instagram and high-profile collaborations with global brands ranging from Louis Vuitton to Nike, as well as performing artists from Katy Perry to Childish Gambino. His outspoken attitude seems to resonates well with young and new art collectors.
